Chorweiler Beat was created in the Cologne district of that name. Using ultrasound, the artist recorded the heartbeats of several residents, and as in music videos, she then had them performed individually by young dancers from the same estate, against the background of the distinctive architecture of the satellite town. Perhaps the most personal acoustic identification of one person is transferred to another, who has to enter empathically into the other`s rhythm and interpret it in their own way.
An audible portrait of a person is made visible by the choreography and established through the choice of the stage in the district. The artistic interweaving of two people of different ages, origins, gender, etc. previously unknown to each other results in a very intimate, multifaceted portrait of a city. The origins of street dance and beat music, reflected in the title, lie in the urban “structurally weak” milieu and have emerged as a countermovement to the mainstream.
