The work Rap from the edge was created in the context of the exhibition ‘Crossing Munich: places, images and discussions about migration’. Based on the socio-scientific research with involved ethnologists about ‘ghetto discourse’ and gangster rap, Anna Witt developed an installation including video, audio and text elements.
The main part of the work is the video ‘Battle Rap’, in which the ethnologists linguistically fight in a rap battle against the rappers. The research, written in a very scientific language, was transformed into a rhyme. The video shows the ethnologists chanting rhythmically. The rappers answer in their own language, commenting on the research about themselves.
