Annabel Daou brings us into a jungle of words and actions, layered beneath the paper of this collage. The layered texture is acquired through the different hues which are placed on cuben fiber, and then secured with small pieces of translucent mending tape. The lightweight material cuben fiber is used to make tents and sails. Upon a closer look one can see some of the words read, “I cook, I drift, I cringe, I obey, I wallow, I refuse, I endure, I change.” Some of these words are submissive, others are defiant, but most are ambiguous and up for interpretation. The artist invites the viewer to understand these meanings on their own, in both their political and personal connotations.
