In this performance piece, the artist invites her visitors to respond to a simple question, “what do you want,” which prompts a range of unique reflections and responses. At first visitors are taken aback but then she begins writing their answers on strands of repair tape, which are then strung from the ceiling at the Galerie Tanja Wagner, where this solo exhibition took place. This performance considers the role of artists in relation to others, or even as someone who carries the burdens of others. Daou’s paper and tape-based constructions, sound pieces, and performance works are sites of uneasy intimacy and self-encounter. In this work, Daou explores the language of possession and desire.
