In the series Flowers for Africa, Kapwani Kiwanga collects images that officiate the independence of African States and the floral arrangements that were present. For this conceptual piece, Kiwanga recreates the floral compositions as ephemeral sculptures. For each exhibition the flowers are left to wilt throughout the entire duration of the show. For Flowers for Africa: Rwanda a freestanding arch covered with cut vegetation is reconstructed, a celebration of Rwanda’s independence from Belgium.
