Public installation EU / Others was realized for Manifesta 3 – the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, which was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia that year. The theme and the title of the exhibition was “Borderline Syndrome”. During these early years of the EU integration process, two different signs were placed at the border crossings of member countries: “EU Citizens” and “Others”. Despite the fact that Slovenia was not yet a member of the European Union, they were still applying the same border control segregation rules. A few years later they entered the “EU” and the “Others” signs at the borders were replaced with the more politically correct “non-EU citizens”.
