In this installation Kapwani Kiwanga uses image and sound to create a journey through time, constructed spaces, and assembled narratives. She references the now-disappeared physical edifice; Palais Radziwill. Between 1884-1885 this building hosted the historic Congo Conference, a series of diplomatic meetings where European and American representatives made decisions which would carve out spheres of influence on the African continent. Kapwani’s investigations took her around, beside, beyond, and before the Congo Conference to unearth intriguing stories and to elaborate a technique of spacial visualisation to reactive the memory of forgotten histories.
