PRESS RELEASE

We have arrived at an unsettling historical juncture: in the U.S. and around the globe there is growing concern that we have failed to learn from the mistakes of the past.

The gallery will present LEARNING FROM BIG MISTAKES, a group exhibition of international artists, most of whom show with the gallery in Berlin. The works on view explore both exterior and interior conflicts, and foster conversation in a transnational context. The exhibition reprises the title of Ulf Aminde’s first solo-show at Galerie Tanja Wagner in 2011.

Šejla Kamerić, Annabel Daou and Nilbar Güreş come from countries troubled by conflicts that reverberate throughout their work. Paula Doepfner, Grit Richter and Laurel Nakadate deal with inner processes and emotional conflict. Ulf Aminde has created a new video addressing white supremacy. Kapwani Kiwanga will show a work from her ongoing Flowers for Africa series, which references African (post-)colonial history. A video by Anna Wittexplores power and repression, while Angelika J. Trojnarski visualizes scientific errors concerning the universe.
